Web Hosting FAQ
Q: After
I place my order, how long until I get my website?
A: You should be able to have your website
within minutes. Yes, minutes! However, some ISPs need
time to activate your account if you used a credit card
to purchase web hosting.
Q: I
already have a domain name. Will it take longer to get my website
since the domain name has to go through a transfer?
A: Domain transfers take anywhere
from 1 - 72 hours. 72 hours at the most. This does
not depend on Gigablaze.com's ability to set up your
site. This is a result of the company you registered
your domain name with getting all of the DNS's propogated.
Usually domains are propogated and are visible within
an hour or less.
Q: Does
it cost anything for me to move my existing domain?
A: Not at all. It's free to move
your exsisting domain.
Q: How
can I get a free domain name?
A: Some ISPs give you a free domain
name when you buy hosting. However chances are you
will come out with a less professional looking domain
name, such as http://yourdomainname.yourwebhost.com.
To be honest, domain names are rather cheap these
days and it is always a good idea to register your
own. That shouldn't be a financial issue.
Q: How
long does it take for a domain name to transfer?
A: According to Network Solutions
and any other domain name registrant, it will take
up to 72 hours. However, we have seen it only take
1-4 hours.
Q: Can
I use Outlook Express for my website email, or is it just web-based?
A: Make sure the ISP offers "POP3"
email. This allows you to use 3rd party email applications such as
Outlook.
Q: What
is your uptime guarantee?
A: You'll notice some ISPs announcing
"99.99% Uptime!" which is possible, but hey, this is the
internet. They may guarantee a 99.99% uptime on their own network,
but that does not include other internet connections from the outside.
Q: What
comes with my web hosting package?
A: Make sure you can get a mySQL
Database and PhP. Why? Because you can get a ton
of free scripts for PhP including a shopping cart!
We currently have a huge list of scripts such as
phpFAQ, Forums, Project Managers, Calendars and etc..
that you can install onto your site with just the
touch of a button when you host with us.
Q: There
are some web hosting companies that offer cheap rates only if you
run their banner ads.
A: Our suggestion - popup banner
ads to your site that open multiple windows will
chase people away. Get a decent ISP where you don't
need to run their ads.
Q: How
many email accounts and auto-responders can I create?
A: Some ISPs offer UNLIMITED FTP
Accounts and UNLIMITED AUTO-RESPONDERS, and UNLIMITED
EMAIL ACCOUNTS, and so on. Be honest, do you really
think you'll be using all those "unlimited accounts?" Of
course not. Don't allow the term "unlimited" to
make your decision when shopping for an ISP.
Q: What
kind of server should I use?
A: Windows, FreeBSD or Linux will
work fine, as long as both support PhP. Linux will
always support PhP with harmony - so you may want
to go the Linux route. Windows will offer PhP but
it's a bit sticky. Our suggestion: Linux or FreeBSD.
